Founded in 1971 in Belgium by seven national associations of science journalists, EUSJA now represents more than 2000 science journalists from 25 countries.
Following the collapse of the Berlin Wall in 1989 there was an upsurge of interest from Eastern European countries, all of whom now play an active role in EUSJA’s activities. Member countries are (March 2008) Albania, Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
