Submitted by webmaster on Fri, 2009-05-29 22:39
The Wellcome Trust is the largest charity in the UK.
The Wellcome Trust was established in 1936 as an independent charity funding research to improve human and animal health. With an endowment of around £13 billion, it is the United Kingdom's largest non-governmental source of funds for biomedical research.
On 5 February 2008 the Wellcome Trust committed to increasing its funding for research and large scale biomedical projects to almost £4 billion over the next five years.
The overall mission of the trust is "to foster and promote research with the aim of improving human and animal health", and in addition to funding biomedical research it supports the public understanding of science.
