Biography: 
Shannon Brownlee is a Senior Fellow at the New America Foundation, in Washington, DC; a Visiting Scholar at the NIH Clinical Center, Dept. of Bioethics; and a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Scholar. Her articles and essays have appeared in such publications as the Atlantic Monthly, BMJ, New York Times Magazine, The New Republic, Slate, and Time, and Brownlee’s book, Overtreated: Why Too Much Medicine is Making Us Sicker and Poorer, was named the best economics book of 2007 by New York Times economics correspondent David Leonhardt. She is a recipient of numerous awards, including the Association of Health Care Journalists Award for Excellence, the Victor Cohn Prize for Excellence in Medical Science Reporting, and the National Association of Science Writers Science-in-Society Award. She holds a Master of Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
